If you are visiting the Garden with the intent of using the Garden as a backdrop for your photos for any occasion, with any type of camera including smartphones, you must book an after-hours photoshoot in advance.
The Japanese Friendship Garden is 3.5 acres with a single, narrow path. Booking ahead ensures that all guests who come for the purpose of enjoying the Garden are able to do so with ease and helps us protect the Garden grounds.

Photoshoot Reservations
Times:

Monday mornings 8am-12pm & Wednesday nights 4pm-8pm.

Must be reserved 14 business days in advance
Photoshoots are strictly held outside of our operating hours when we are closed to the public.
Fee:

$300/hour

Payment and a signed contract are due at time of reservation.
The fee includes one hour and up to 10 people for the photoshoot.
All photoshoots are staffed with one of our friendly and knowledgeable Garden staff.
A staff member will meet you at the front of the Garden at the time of your reservation. They will review our Garden Etiquette, provide any direction you may need and supervise the shoot at all times.
Commercial Photography & Filming:

Fee: $1,100/hour for entire Garden private rental

Photoshoot Policies

Photo Shoots must be reserved with 14 business days' advance notice.

Payment and signed contract are due at the time of reservation.

Photographers must check in with the designated staff member before they begin their photography session and check out when they leave.

Photographers and models may take photographs outside the path, but may not climb trees, stand in the water, or alter the Garden's landscape (e.g. moving rocks, breaking branches, etc).

The use of photography equipment is allowed, but props (e.g. chairs, free-standing elements) are subject to approval by the Japanese Friendship Garden staff.

Use of images for commercial, advertising, or promotional purposes requires pre-approval by the Garden staff.

All uses of images in print, web, broadcast, or any other public medium require a location credit.

All Garden Etiquette applies during your shoot.

No drones are permitted.

The Garden reserves the right to determine the propriety of any photo activity in the Garden and may choose to discontinue the activity of any individual or group if the Garden Etiquette and Photography Policies are not being observed.

What’s defined as a photoshoot at JFG?
If you are visiting the Garden with the intent of using the garden as a backdrop for an amateur, professional, special occasion, or posed photography session you may not enter as a general admission visitor. You must reserve a photo shoot, pay the fee, and sign an agreement in advance.
What’s defined as posed photography at JFG?
Posed photography is defined as any photographer (amateur or professional) that gathers an individual or a group together for a photo and/or poses individuals for Wedding, Engagement, Family/Child Pictures, Portraits, Graduation/Senior Pictures, Fashion, Athletic, Business, Product Endorsement, Prom, Quinceañera, Maternity, Head-shots, Website Use/Blog Posts, Student Projects, etc.
What's defined as commercial photography and filming at JFG?
Commercial photography and filming is defined as any photography, videography, or filming, such as for a magazine, news organization or other major or minor production company, in the Garden for distribution purposes. The following are considered by the Japanese Friendship Garden of Phoenix to be commercial: advertisements, calendars, catalogs, guidebooks, magazines, editorial, fashion, music, promotional, website use, and television broadcast.
